Can You Remove a Trustpilot Review? The Honest Answer
Trustpilot positions itself as a platform that protects the integrity of reviews on both sides — for consumers and businesses. This means their removal process is more structured and evidence-dependent than many other platforms. The honest answer to whether reviews can be removed: yes, in specific circumstances, but the bar is higher than people often expect.
Note: Trustpilot does not remove reviews simply because a business disputes them. The review must contain a verifiable policy violation. Legitimate negative reviews, even harsh ones, are typically not removable.
Trustpilot's Removal Criteria
Trustpilot's Content Integrity team reviews reports based on their guidelines. Reviews that can be flagged for removal include:
- Reviews from people who have no verifiable transaction with the business
- Reviews containing clearly false factual statements that can be disproved
- Reviews that contain personal attacks, threats, or abusive language
- Reviews that appear to be part of a coordinated campaign against a business
- Reviews posted by competitors or people with a clear conflict of interest
What Evidence Qualifies for Removal
For a removal request to succeed, you typically need to demonstrate one or more of the following:
- Proof that the reviewer was never a customer — e.g. no matching transaction records for the claimed date or service
- Screenshots or records showing the review contains demonstrably false factual claims
- Evidence that the reviewer has posted similar fabricated reviews on other businesses
- Documentation of a competitor relationship or conflict of interest
"Trustpilot's content team responds to evidence, not frustration. The more specific and documented your case, the better the outcome."
How to Submit a Removal Request
Removal requests are submitted directly through the Trustpilot business portal. You'll need a verified business account to flag reviews. The flag option appears on each individual review, where you select the most relevant policy violation category and provide your supporting evidence.
Trustpilot's team typically responds within a few business days. Complex cases or those requiring investigation may take longer. If the initial report is declined, a secondary review can be requested with additional supporting materials.
Not sure if your review qualifies?
Send us the Trustpilot review link and we'll assess whether it meets the removal criteria and what supporting evidence would strengthen your case.

If Trustpilot declines to remove a review, the alternatives include a professional written response (which remains permanently attached to the review), building positive review volume to reduce the review's relative impact, and search suppression to reduce its visibility in Google results over time.
